In the summer of 2019, our founder Andrew was inspired by the increasing popularity of Toyota vehicles and the Tacoma's honeycomb-style front grille. He set out to bring the TRD Pro style to 4th Generation 4Runners by creating a custom front grille for his own 2006 4Runner. After some research, he ordered a Tacoma grille online and began working on his prototype. The process involved cutting out the middle of his OEM 4Runner grille and the center of the Tacoma TRD Pro grille, then fitting the Tacoma inner grille into the 4Runner outer grille and securing it with screws and glue. The finished product was painted matte black, and although it may have been rough around the edges, it marked the first prototype of the TRD Pro grille for 4Runners. Due to customer demand in the 4Runner community, Andrew eventually decided to open Trail Runner Customs about a year later.
